Smart Pole Demonstration Experiment in the Nishi-Shinjuku Area

About Pedestrian Measurement Sensors

As part of the "TOKYO Data Highway Basic Strategy" announced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in August 2028, which positions the Nishi-Shinjuku area as one of the priority development areas and promotes the construction of a super high-speed mobile Internet network, we have installed smart poles in the Nishi-Shinjuku area in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, and are conducting a demonstration experiment. As part of this effort, we have installed smart poles in the Nishi-Shinjuku area of Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, and are conducting a demonstration experiment with the cooperation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The following is a description of the purpose of this demonstration experiment and the handling of personal information in this experiment.

Outline of the Demonstration Experiment
1. Purpose of the Demonstration Experiment
M.S.D.C. Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Jancome Lanfranchi) has installed one smart pole in the West Shinjuku area since November 2020 as part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Smart Pole Advance and Trial Installation and Verification program.
Our smart poles are equipped with digital signage, Wi-Fi, sensors to measure air pollutants, and 5G base stations as well as cameras to measure human flow.
Please refer to the following for information on the use of the camera and the handling of personal information.

2.Demonstration test location
One smart pole installed by us
2-4-1 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo (on the sidewalk along Fureai-dori Avenue on the north side of the NS Building)

3. Traffic volume data collection by camera
For the demonstration experiment, traffic volume sensors will use camera image analysis technology to measure the direction of movement and number of people within the shooting range for 24 hours.
The number of people measured is converted into numerical data, and only the converted data is transferred to the server and recorded as statistical values.
Therefore, this camera image is never recorded or stored and is automatically deleted after the numerical data transfer.
In addition, by recording only the statistical values that became conversion data, the system does not store any information to identify individual pedestrians, thus ensuring privacy.

4.Privacy Policy
We will handle personal information as follows, in compliance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other related laws and regulations, and in reference to the IoT Promotion Consortium's "Camera Image Utilization Guidebook ver. 2.0" and other related guidelines.

   1. Personal information to be obtained
The camera captures pedestrians who pass through the camera's shooting range during data collection.

   2. Purpose of Use
The purpose of collecting sidewalk traffic volume will be used to analyze the current situation for better city planning.

   3. Safe Management of Personal Information
Images taken for headcount measurement are automatically deleted after the number of pedestrians is converted into numerical data and the statistics are transferred to the server.
The data acquired by the camera will not be used to identify individuals.
It will not be provided to any third party, except as otherwise provided by law.
